Sudanese folktales, Printmaking,2018
Folktales are great
tools to bring people together, beside raise the question of cultural
diversity and identity in Sudan . My artworks investigate the role of Sudanese folktales
in linking the cultural gap between the older and younger generation.
Sudan is a very
diverse country and great place to experience different cultures. There are 19
major ethnic groups and over 597 ethnic subgroups speaking more than 100
languages and dialects, each ethnic group have unique folktales. Unfortunately
just about 21 folktales had been collected and obviously these stories
represent some of these ethnic groups.
The outputs of the project will help to preserve these forms
of stories that are starting to disappear. My art works also can educate and
entertain the younger generation by connecting them with their culture and
heritage, beside it can bring social groups together from fragmentation or
falling apart.
